Seminar on GPS-Based Autocorrelated Movement Analysis Using AKDE
On August 12 at 13:30, the 15th seminar of the CSIE Seminar Series explored how GPS tracking data and statistical modeling can help us better understand animal movement and space use.
The seminar was delivered by CSIE research intern Marieta Voskanyan.
Participants learned why consecutive GPS locations are often correlated and how Autocorrelated Kernel Density Estimation (AKDE) accounts for this dependence to provide more reliable estimates of animals’ home ranges. The approach was presented through a case study of the Armenian Gull (Larus armenicus), using GPS telemetry to explore movement patterns, habitat preferences, and behavior.
